What Do I Do Now?
A gentle plan for the days, weeks and months after someone dies.
If you only have a moment
If they died at home with hospice, call the hospice. If it was sudden or unexpected, call 911. Nearly all the rest can wait a few hours. That includes picking a funeral home.
Someone you love has died, and now everyone seems to have questions you can't answer yet. Who should I call? What do I sign? What happens now?
I know that fog. When the people around you need things from you and you can barely put a sentence together, even a simple list feels like too much.
So answer a few questions below and you'll get a plan made for your family, in order. You'll see what matters today, what can wait until this week and what can wait longer. Skip any question you'd rather not answer.
Nothing you type leaves your computer. We don't save it or see it. To keep your plan, print it, download it, or save a plan file to your own computer.
Want all of this on paper, and more? Everything They'll Need to Know walks through the first days and weeks, and everything after.
This plan is a guide, not legal, medical or financial advice. Rules are different in each state. When in doubt, ask the office named in the step.
These resources are free, always. If this helped your family and you'd like to say thank you, you can leave a small gift.
